Hudson River Watch Company

Recently funded on Kickstarter, Hudson River Watch Company is certainly on the rise. They surpassed their funding goal by over $65,000, reaching a monstrous $115,000 in just a few months. But with a mix of unique and beautiful "New York City inspired" watches, its easy to see why.

Before we take a look at the watches, you should really read their story, pretty amazing. I just can't imagine, without any previous experience, thinking that I could start my own watch company. But they did, and they clearly did it well. Here's a snapshot of the whole collection:

Each watch costs around $300 dollars, and is named after a street in New York City. And while they definitely have a few classic styles, you can see that they also really pushed the envelope with a few of them.

With so many styles to choose from, I had a hard time picking my favorite. If I were going to buy one though, I think I would go with The Charleston Street $345:

Unfortunately, this watch, as are many others, is already on backorder; clearly a good sign for the company if they can start matching the demand.

If I had one criticism, I don't love that each watch is named after the street that supposedly inspired its design. That seems like a stretch to me, and is perhaps a little gimmicky. But maybe I should just be quiet and buy a handsome well-priced watch.

Size Matters

Two Christmases ago, my brother Nate got me a pair of sneakers -- Adidas Originals in blue and orange. I really liked them. But I quickly realized that they were the wrong size. Although a great gift, my brother had mistakenly purchased his own size...

Long story short, he kept them. And now, just to rub it in, he's instagramming them with cool socks.

But of course, Nate also righted his wrong and bought me a different pair of equally cool sneakers -- Puma Whirlwinds in Green and Yellow.

I'm not sure which pair of shoes I like better, but his socks are certainly more fun.

Spotted

Grandpa style.

I felt kind of weird creeping on an old man like this, and I think rightfully so, but whatever. Luckily, this Clint Eastwood look-alike didn't beat the sh*t out of me when I snapped the pic.

A Second Look

At an old friend.

I posted a while back about Only NY, a small clothing company based in New York City. They design casual urban clothing, releasing each new style in limited quantities. I hadn't checked up on them in a while, and I definitely like what I see.

Track Tee $32

Simple and sexy. I also like this vest, despite the high price.

60/40 Mtn Vest $180

And lastly, I might buy these socks.

Ok that's all folks. Happy Monday.

The Bomber Jacket.

A few weeks ago I bought a totally beat up bomber jacket from a Goodwill in south Boston. Its littered with grease marks, and even has a few holes, but it is so cool.

My grandpa used to have a jacket like this, I think most grandpas do. Its a great look, and I've been trying to find more jackets like it.

I've already found two. First, the preppy bomber:

And second, the Members Only bomber:

I like them all, but I kind of want a new one. I want the grease stains to be my grease stains, the rips to be my rips. Here's what I'm looking at now:

Come next fall, it will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine.

Vintage T's

It was beautiful today in Boston, a perfect day for a walk to my neighborhood Goodwill in Central Square. I comb through this location quite often, and I always find something I like. Today, I scored a nice batch of Vintage T's.

Check it out:

Bright Colors, great graphic, great shirt. And continuing with this neon style, I also love this "Washington" shirt.

Such a simple graphic, but I like it. The same goes for this Paraguay shirt.

And last, but actually, maybe least, I thought this "Virginia" shirt was worth buying.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the haul, a good Thursday indeed.

And sometimes, all you need is an old shirt, a pair of jeans, and some old school shoes, like these Vans I spotted last night.

The red laces really made these beater shoes stand out.

Anyways, enough vintage, I'll end today's post with a pair of Seavees kicks that, with a loving owner, might eventually have as much character as the pair of Vans pictured above (excluding that terrible blue stain, probably when I decide to get a new pair).

But don't stop there, complete the look and help fight Aids by adding a touch of color with these.

Boom. Look good, do good, feel good.

DanielByron.com

Big news over here at Daniel Byron Headquarters. We bought a domain name! This is very exciting, you can now visit us(me) at Danielbyron.com.

You'll notice that nothing else is different once you get there, but don't worry, big upgrades will be happening shortly.

In the meantime, let me show you a few pickups from this past weekend of thrifting. First, lets start with this beautiful red vest that I found at a Salvation Army in Western Mass.

For $3, I was pumped to stumble upon this gem.

This next piece was found in an antique store in Manchester, VT, that specialized in old fishing, hunting, and cigar paraphernalia.

Great box, great chips, zero functionality. No way you're playing a game of poker with these, but I had to have them.

I think I'll post more clothing tomorrow, but today I'm going to continue with a random mix of nick knacks, like this box for example.

I found this piece in Somerville for $20. More than I wanted to pay, but not steep enough to keep me away.

And last, but certainly not least, this watch is amazing.

$10 dollars on Ebay, but instagram makes it look like a million bucks.

New Camera, New Look

So I didn't actually get a new camera, but I did start playing around with an old one. And so far I'm liking the results.

As for what I'm actually taking pictures of, I recently found a tweed blazer at a Goodwill for $10 dollars. Its beautiful, and it fits perfectly. Truly a great find. I wore it recently with a vintage tie and a thrift store button down. From the waist up, my outfit cost me less than $20 dollars. Check it out:

I don't know who makes the tie, but the shirt is L.L. Bean. To complete the look, I also went vintage (and cheap), and wore a pair of Brooks Brother Khakis that I bought at a second hand store in the South End for just $25. The wingtip shoes I was wearing were from Goodwill as well, and came in at $7.

The finished product:

Despite my general vanity, I don't think I have a future in modeling. My hands and posture are awkward, and I even feel awkward just posting a picture of my self; I'm not one for 'selfies'. Oh well, the clothes are great, and its not a bad look for just fifty bucks, far less than the average dress shirt from J.Crew.

In fact, I bought every shirt and tie on this table for less than the price of a single J.Crew shirt.

Seven Shirts, three ties, $60 dollars. Not too shabby.

You're probably wondering why I set this whole table up like that, its for my application to SOWA this summer, very exciting.

And by the way, how cool is that Osh Kosh B'Gosh duffel?

This very nice lady gave it to me for free at a consignment shop in Manchester Vermont, apparently and unbelievably it had been sitting on the shelves for months. That was a good day.

OK but before I go, I'll give you a glamshot of some of my watches.

Ha, I don't think that hashtag totally works the way it was intended to. Oh well...

Vintage 1970 Timex

I have a lot of babies. I love the design on the face, very retro.
