Cards and a Clock

Guys,

I bought two items on Etsy last week. They just arrived.

Vintage Deer Cards. I want to frame them.

And I finally bought one of those old travel alarm clocks that I've had my eye on for some time now.

Cool right?

The Friday Five

Just a quick one here, a few Etsy finds to start the weekend off right.

The Friday Five:

1. This bag is awesome.

NORTH FACE vintage bag brown label large bag $125

Kind of a weird size, but its got great color.

2. I've been wanting a gold watch forever.

Retro Gold Casio Digital Wrist Watch $30

The chain is a little flashy, but I like it.

3. At $13 dollars, this shirt is a must buy.

So cool.

4. Great Nike Sweatshirt

The stripes inside the logo is what really makes it amazing. Unfortunately, its too small for me.

5. This Hanky is dope!

If I owned a hip shoe store, maybe in Venice or Santa Monica, I'd totes have that framed on the wall.

Happy weekend,

Too much $$$

I keep bidding on watches while they are cheap, and then slowly watching them fall out of reach. Its quite sad really.

I love this vintage Breitling.

Vintage Breitling Chronograph Stainless Steel Case Big Measure $454

Although given my dainty wrists, this oversized watch might not work. But this next Omega would have been amazing. I put up a fight, but in the end, I just couldn't do it. So sad.

It sold for $335 on Ebay last night. Seems way undervalued to me, so naturally I'm swimming in an all-too-familiar pool of regret.

One for me, Two for you

The rest for our friends! In my future home bar, filled with vintage highballs, lowballs, stemware, and chicks, I will definitely have at least one set of numbered glasses.

Retro Mid Century Set of 8 Numbered Highball Tall Cocktail Glasses $37.50

Or perhaps you prefer these:

Vintage Cocktail Glass Set 1960s $35

They look a lot cleaner, but its not a full set. I'm going to keep looking, but I will definitely buy something like this soon. Cool, and functional. You'll never misplace your drink.

Today's Find

I pop into the Goodwill in my neighborhood pretty regularly, once or twice a month usually. Sometimes I find absolutely nothing, but occasionally, I find something that I absolutely adore.

Today, I had a good day. Check out my new vest!

And it gets better, its reversible. I love it.

Brooklyn Industries

Despite the name, I actually stumbled upon this company while I was walking in the west village. I was running quite late to a soccer game at pier 40, but I somehow still found the time to take a quick look around their store.

I really wanted to buy this back pack.

Conduit Tilt Backpack - Unisex Nylon/Waxed Canvas Bag $98

It was the perfect size, and it had a nice lap top pocket. I also liked this casual blazer.

Its cheap, it fit well, and I actually enjoyed the little detail on the cuff, something I might normally find superfluous.

Anyways, you should check them out!

New Vintage?

So I recently saw this Levi's Vintage Clothing (vintage inspired) crew neck on the StevenAlan website, and I kind of liked it.

1950's Crew Sweatshirt $150

But when I really thought about it, something wasn't right. Its just fake, and its so expensive. I think you should either buy real vintage, or go for a cleaner crew neck. Something like this.

Reigning Champ Crew Neck $110

Ever heard of Reigning Champ? I hadn't until today, but its definitely worth a look. I like this next one too.

Saturdays Bowery Crew Neck $58 (Down from $98)

I can't remember if I've ever written about something from Saturdays, but I love this New York City Surf shop. Check out some of my favorites from their site.

The Next Wave Poster $100

And I also think this bag is totally cute right?

My girlfriend can rock that, I think this next bag suits me a little better.

But OK, please excuse my retail tangent, lets get back to the original point of this post. Crew necks, fake vintage, etc. If I'm going vintage, I'm going to wear something that's actually old, used, and cheap. Something like this.

And just to complete the retro look, and to continue with that logic, I think this car does the trick.

As Ferris would say, "It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up."

DB

P.S. And for the record, "vintage inspired" clothing is often great, I'm just not sure I believe in intentionally making something look frayed and overly worn in (as in, $150 dollar jeans that are practically falling apart).

All About the Hamiltons

I haven't posted a vintage watch in far too long. Totally unacceptable.

Here are the two that I'm looking at now, both from Hamilton.

Vintage Hamilton Military Watch $150-$200

This may look pretty familiar to you, just check out this Timex.

Timex Military Watch $150

Its basically the exact same watch, but buying the original is always cooler.

This next watch is completely different, totally unique, and therefore a lot riskier to buy online.

Vintage Hamilton Wrist Watch $200 or Best Offer

The picture isn't great, but I think its beautiful.

I want them both! What should I do???

DB

Here's a Pointer

Sell your stuff online! I hate companies that don't sell their own products on their website. It doesn't make any sense to me, shouldn't you want your product line to be as accessible as possible? I just don't get it. Either way, I do love Pointer Shoes, especially these.

Debaser $80

It comes in a few other colors as well, if only I knew where I could actually buy them.

Owner Operator

GQ is normally terrible, the same goes for Esquire and Details. I think the three of them actually share a library of recycled content that lines the walls of some overly-decorated soho loft. Nothing's ever new: sexy girls, designer clothing, beach vacations, etc. I usually never buy any of them, but when I'm at the airport, and there's an exceptionally pretty lady on the cover, or maybe Ryan Gosling in a 3-piece suit, sometimes I indulge myself.

Beyonce was this month's pretty girl, and well, I bought a GQ on my way back from Indianapolis.  For the ten minutes that I couldn't use my computer on the plane, it served its purpose. Sexual, and non-sexual man porn. Its like the show Entourage, but in print.

And! Despite all of my criticisms, I did find a new company that seems cool.  Not satisfied with the current mountain style, these two ski-bums started a new performance clothing brand that is both high function, and high fashion. Or as GQ wrote, "The vibe is more Rag & Bone than it is Mountain Hardwear, so feel free to wear it on the street back home too." Check out Owner Operator, designed in Brooklyn.

Cool pack, I also love this shirt.

But just like much of the wonderful clothing that Rag & Bone offers, I can't afford it.  The same goes for this jacket. Although by combining the style of a Filson or Barbour Jacket with the functionality of a ski jacket, the price isn't too bad considering its basically two coats in one.

For now though, I'll just have to buy this cheap, but also kind of cool shirt.

Everything looks good with a naked-brick background.

Indianapolis

The land of giant sterile avenues, giant sterile Panera Breads, and also this year's annual Soccer Convention, hosted by the NSCAA.  As they say, I'm here on business.

Anyways, I just spotted these sweet shoes on the exhibit floor. Check it out:

Munich Gresca 604 $118

They're actually super high-end indoor soccer shoes, or "futsal" shoes for those of us in the know, but I think they would look great as a casual shoe as well.

Happy Friday,

DB

P.S. Go Niners, go Ravens.

UNIONMADE

So my buddy introduced me to this site UNIONMADE, and I must say they have quite a selection of awesome clothing, most of which is on sale. Definitely take a look around.

I found this shirt that I really like, but I can't tell if I'd actually wear it. Its right on that edge for me personally.

PORTUGUESE FLANNEL SHIRT IN RED AND BLUE $114 (Down from $190)

Its a little intense to wear alone, so maybe I'd try it out with a V-neck sweater first, like when a gopher pokes his head out of the ground to make sure the coast is clear.

I also found these socks that I really like.

NEW FAIRISLE WASHED WOOL SOCK IN NAVY $42

Really cool, but at $42 dollars, I'm not super interested. Maybe I'll get these instead.

Snow Crystal Crew in Navy $22

Happy Wednesday,

Komono Monday

So in one of my very first posts, I wrote about the Nixon Time Teller P

Nixon Time Teller P

I own that color, and I actually just bought one for my brother as well.  I think its a great watch.  And thanks to Uncrate, I stumbled upon a different company with a similar look.

Komono Fat Wizard Watch $70

Worst name ever.

Cool watch though, although I prefer this next option.

Komono Magnus Watch $120

Happy Monday,

A Mix

So I think I have an Ebay problem. I just bought this for no real reason. I do however really like it.

Cool right? That was only $5, this next item is a bit pricier.

VINTAGE SEIKO 6139-7039 CHRONOGRAPH WATCH $395

I'd obviously change the strap, I'm no Frenchman, but the actual watch is great.

OK, enough Ebay. I love these shoes.

But if you want something a little more unique, check out this next pair.

Cheaper, weirder, better.  I love it.

For Her

Chicks man.... the worst.

What do you buy them for christmas? Valentine's day? Anniversaries? Birthdays? How much are you supposed to spend? How do you make it personal? Etc, etc. It can be quite overwhelming.

Ok well I definitely don't have the answer to all those questions, but I do have a few gift ideas for that special lady in your life, mothers included!

I love these necklaces.

Check out the rest of their styles at http://www.etsy.com/shop/RenataandJonathan  Made by hand, these necklaces are pretty, one of a kind, and not super expensive -- sounds good to me.

But maybe you've already given enough jewelry, lets try something new.  I love this little alarm clock.

Linden Alarm Clock $20

How cute is that?!?!  She will love it, I love it, I want it, forget the girl, give it to me!

But OK this next idea is way out there.  I really like it, but I think I would be too scared to buy it.  Too risky.

Vintage 90's Grunge Bag $62

See what I mean? In my opinion, you should never buy a girl a dress, who knows if it will fit.  This  bag has such a unique style, I think it follows the same rule.

Alright, my last bit of advice is to look on Ebay for vintage clothing from high-end brands.  Every once in a while you will find something amazing, at a reasonable price.  I really liked this scarf, but unfortunately it got a little too rich for my blood.

Vintage Hermes, it sold for a cool $200 on Ebay. Scarves are nice because they always fit. Great for moms.

Anyways, the point is that its all about effort.  Buying a gift is hard, so it shouldn't be easy (Yogi Berra anyone?).  I usually try to find one "big ticket" item, and then get a few smaller things that I know/hope she'll like.  Its almost like hedging a bet, how romantic!

And lastly when you are shopping for the girl friend, feel free to ask your mom for help, just don't ler her go out and do the shopping herself.  I've seen it happen, and thats just poor form...

Ruggedly Handsome

So I was told to keep my dialogue short.  "Keep it concise," she said, "thats when you're at your best."

Women can be so cruel, especially when they're right.

So let's just get to the clothing.

Woolrich is a great brand, have I mentioned them before? You should check out their site, but from what I can tell, their vintage clothing is what people are really into these days.  And although I didn't end up buying it, I do really love this shirt -- the logo-placement, the buttons, the black detail on the inside of the collar, its all working for me.

But OK lets move on.  I'm trying to keep it manly tonight, despite watching You've Got Mail on E! as I blog about clothing...

Anyways, my oldest brother introduced me to this next item.  If he didn't already own it, I'd definitely give it some serious thought.

I hate the picture.  It looks french and fussy, but it totally isn't -- note the Carhartt label.  Not really a blazer, its actually much thicker than a sport coat, and would work great as a fall or spring jacket.  And while I usually hate gold buttons, rules are made to be broken.

OK well enough chit-chat, see you all tomorrow!

Friday, January 4, 2013

So I just bought this...

It was priced at $70 or best offer.  I took a shot at $35, and boom, my offer was accepted.

It makes me wonder about pricing on Ebay, or pricing in general.  At $70 dollars I figured it must be something special, and I do think its attractive, so I went for it.  Would I have felt the same way if it were priced at $35 from the beginning?  I just don't know.  I'm starting to like the selling strategy of high price/best offer, at the very least it works on me, but maybe I'm just a sucker.

Either way, I think it actually is something special.  I mean check out the tag!

The tag is in english and french (classy), it was made in Hong Kong (exotic), and for some reason it says Sun Valley, Idaho as well (???).  I smell some quality merchandise!

But really, who cares, as long as it looks good right.
