Spice it up a bit

Well hello there old friends.  Its been too long, but today, do I have a treat for you!  So we all know that the classic Casio/Seiko/Timex digital watch has been a standard hipster watch for years, decades even. Here's what I mean.

Most people get it in black, but I think its quite attractive in gold.  But like always, I dont want what you have.  I want something different, something that you my friend, do not have.  So with a little effort, and not always more money, I can do just that.  In fact, for just $11.50 you could have bought this on Ebay.

I wonder if thats David Duchovny's hand?  Either way, I think its really cool.  But lets say you were sold on gold from that first picture.  Then perhaps you'd like to make an offer on this next watch.

This is so retro its amazing, C3PO chic as I like to call it.  I'm definitely going to make an offer, how high I can't decide.  But let's move on, shall we?

Until you can buy a real self-winding watch, maybe you'll be happy with this solar-powered Casio.

Saving the world, one retro watch a time.  But that Ebay auction isn't over for another 3 days, I want something I can buy today.  This looks reasonable.

I'm starting to fall in love with these hybrid digital/analog watches. I'll definitely have to get one soon.  But enough of these relatively cheap, actually affordable, reasonable options.  This is what I really want.

Regardless of the fact that its made by a fancy company, I think it looks really cool.  It will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine.

Anyways, the point is that if you put a little time into looking, you can easily find something thats handsome, unique, and well priced.

P.S. I dropped a few movie references along the way today, can you name all 3?

Accessorize like a Man!

Despite the gross title to this post, I really want these two items from L.L. Bean.  The next time I have to wear a coat and tie, I'm going casual with it.  5 O'Clock shadow, chiseled physique, and one of these.

If I had to pick one, I think I'm going with the fish.  I guess you can call me a Bass man.  But I, like most normal people, am also a dog lover.  So naturally I really want this belt.

Happy Man-cessorizing!

Steal the look?

You always hear about "stealing the look".  Get the style without the price. I thought about this concept recently when I sent my buddy a link to this beautiful watch:

44MM Parnis big pilots stainless steel case luminous MECHANICAL Watch 6497 PN213 $88

He responded correctly by saying that the watch was indeed beautiful, basically an IWC bootleg.  See what I mean?

Everything is pretty similar, besides the price, the name, and most likely the weight/quality of the
watch.  Which got me thinking, do I really want to "steal the look".  Is that even a good thing?

Dappered.com often writes about where to find less expensive alternatives, and recently posted about this stylish MOUGIN & PIQUARD™ CHRONOGRAPH WATCH IN BLACK $695

If it weren't being mass advertised through J.Crew, I would absolutely love this watch.  The people at Dappered.com volunteered this option from Boss as a handsome alternative.

These are a little flashier than the original, but still good looking.  But I don't want to steal the look.  I want the look.  Until I can afford it, I'm happy to wait impatiently.  And on a side note, I don't believe in buying watches from non-watch companies.  Its not even about price, I just think its tacky.

So why not work with what you got.  Maybe something like this.

Sure, higher-end brands definitely carry something similar to this.  But this is a well-made watch from a respectable brand, with straps that keep it age appropriate and casual.
